Task Lighting
|
The problem with single-source, overhead lighting is that all users and all tasks require different amounts of light. For example, reading a document typically requires 5 times more light than viewing a computer display.
It's simply impossible for a single-source lighting scheme to provide the right amount of light for both tasks. The compromise is that most lighting solutions provide enough light for reading documents, which means that there is far too much light for most other tasks. The resulting "overlit" workspace can have significant impact on employee mood and productivity. In addition, these lighting schemes waste a tremedous amount of energy.
